Fátima Dutra mini thread
After success on my Kika thread I decided that I’ll would look at a new player in Fátima Dutra. Sporting new signing has already showed her versality in her play so far this season as she can play in back 3 or back 4 for Sporting. For this thread I only looked at the 6 matches when Fátima broke into the team.
The thing that stood out to me when looking at Fátima positions was her attacking movement. Instead of a traditional overlap run that a normal wing back would made, Fátima would make inward as the space would be created from the Sporting player who is playing on the left wing (in this clip Maísa Correia) as they would stick to being on the touchline. The pass doesn’t quite find her but it shows that she is an attacking threat from the ball being in play.
Fátima biggest attacking threat are her set pieces. They always cause a problem for the opposition defence due to how much curl she puts on the ball. When its an in-swinging corner, the ball always seems to be on top of the keeper and this has lead to a few goal like that this season. Here is an example:
As for her defensive side of the game Fátima sometimes falls into a back 3. This then may explain how positioning in the final third as she exploits the space right in front of her. The back 3 also allows for Borges to push up the field.
The final thing I wanted to touch on was Fátima decision making. I was really impressed by her quick decision making. Despite being under pressure she is often able to find a teammate to help start another attack. In this clip you see Fátima find a quick pass whilst getting pressured before she switches the ball.
In these 6 matches that Fátima broke into the team she proved herself to be a key member of the Sporting. She should hold onto this position if she carries up this impressive form.
